Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar will bring his proposals for the new law to Cabinet later today.
According to the Irish Times, it will be a number of years before the statutory sick pay scheme is fully in operation.
The new bill aims to give workers a minimum level of protection.
