YOTA Announces New Three-Times-a-Year Contest 04/08/2021 “Team YOTA” of Youngsters on the Air in IARU Region 1 has announced it will sponsor a new contest, the YOTA Contest. Open to all radio amateurs, it takes place three times a year and runs just 12 hours. YOTA said the aim is to boost on-the-air activity by younger radio amateurs and to support YOTA. The contest will take place on different 12-hour windows on three Saturdays. The opening event will be on May 22, 0800 – 1959 UTC. The other two in 2021 will be July 17, 1000 – 2159 UTC, and December 30, 1200 – 2359 UTC. YOTA has established eight different operating categories, which include sub-categories for operators age 25 and younger, but operators of all ages may participate. Covering 80, 40, 20, 15, and 10 meters, the allowable modes will be CW and SSB.

Lawra NPP Youth vow to block reinstatement of Alhaji Donkor as Constituency Chairman LISTEN FEB 2, 2021 The Youth Working Committee of the governing New Patriotic Party NPP in the Lawra Constituency of the Upper West region have vowed to resist the reinstatement of Alhaji Mohammed Donkor as Constituency Chairman. Addressing the media at Lawra, the Convener of the group Abdul-Aziz Puoyel described the reinstatement of Alhaji Donkor as illegal as the credibility of his reinstatement letter dated January 21, 2021 and purported to be emanating from the office of the Regional Executive Committee is erroneous as and lacks a reference number without a copy to the NEC.

Australia Day Award winners announced

Devonport City Council Tasmania Devonport City Council honoured its Australia Day Award winners and new citizens at a ceremony held at the paranaple convention centre today. Devonport Mayor Annette Rockliff presented the following awards: Community Event of the Year: International Café, Young Citizen of the Year: Oliver Bailey, Citizen of the Year Award: Bruce and Alida Beattie and “Spirit of the City” Award: Dr Thomas Sayers. Mayor Rockliff also welcomed 11 new citizens to Devonport, who have come from the Philippines, China, Pakistan, South Africa, New Zealand, Chile, and Taiwan. Cr Rockliff said Council was pleased to present an additional award this year, the “Spirit of the City”, which was introduced some years ago to recognise the outstanding achievement by dedicated and deserving non-residents, who have made a significant contribution to the promotion and advancement of Devonport.
