2021-04-28 07:35:48 GMT2021-04-28 15:35:48(Beijing Time) Xinhua English TIRANA, April 28 (Xinhua) Albania s ruling Socialist Party (SP) has won the parliamentary elections held on Sunday for a third term, according to the latest results published by the Central Elections Commission (CEC) early Wednesday. With over 99 percent of the votes counted, the ruling SP led by Prime Minister Edi Rama has won 48.51 percent or over 750,000 votes at the national level, or 74 seats in the 140-seat parliament, according to the CEC results. That would allow the SP to form a government alone. The main opposition Democratic Party (DP) comes second with 39.36 percent or a total of over 615,000 votes, securing 59 parliament seats.

Preliminary results from Sunday s parliamentary election in Albania suggest the ruling Socialist Party (PS) will retain its parliamentary majority. The PS was credited with 48.6 per cent of the vote at 11.45 am CET on Tuesday morning, with fewer than 400 of the country s 5,199 polling stations yet to report. The opposition Democratic Party (PD) had meanwhile secured 39.4 per cent of ballots. If confirmed, the results would give the PS 73 of parliament s 140 seats, according to Europe Elects. Incumbent Prime Minister Edi Rama has invited supporters to join him and his PS lawmakers to embrace victory at a gathering in the capital on Tuesday afternoon.
