avolàta s centerpiece namesake a long communal table has yet to grace its airy, bright dining room. In the meantime, staff at the eatery opened during hopefully the tail end of the coronavirus pandemic are eager to welcome diners to enjoy its Italian-inspired food and drink, for now at tables spaced six feet apart. Tavolàta, a Seattle-based eatery owned and operated by the sizable Ethan Stowell Restaurants group, quietly opened in early May in a prime spot directly across from Riverfront Park, one that last housed an Olive Garden. While breadsticks aren t free and unlimited at Tavolàta, the quality of ingredients and attention to detail all pasta is made fresh in house daily are leagues above chain quality when it comes to Italian-inspired eats with a Northwest flair.
Hoops legend Adam Morrison adds podcast dude to his resume.
From his high school days all the way through to his post-NBA career, Adam Morrison s journey s had plenty of unexpected twists and turns. Its most recent meander, though, is one even Morrison himself didn t see coming: He s now a podcasting dude.
What shouldn t be surprising is that, like most things he s done, he s pretty darn good at it.
Produced by Spokane s Speak Studios, his podcast,
The Perimeter with Adam Morrison, debuted in April. The name is fitting for a basketball player who was lethal shooting from outside in his playing days. But Morrison wasn t a one trick pony on the court, and he isn t in the podcast studio, either. In his first three episodes, two featured former Gonzaga basketball players as guests, while another featured Minnesota radio personality DJ Skee and a deep dive into entrepreneurship.
W
e ve reached the peak time of year for outdoor relaxation. These days the sun s out for as long as it will be in July and August, but evening temperatures aren t yet oppressively hot. Which means it s time to hang up that hammock, pull up a patio chair and kick back for a few hours in the evening sun. Of course, that sounds good enough on its own, but why not kick it up a bit with some cannabis? Here are three products to help you relax to the max.
A NEW FLOWER
Spokane Valley s Phat Panda, one of the largest producers in the state, recently added to its expansive collection with a new strain: Apple Mac. Clocking in at 23 percent THC, this indica-dominant hybrid packs a bit of a punch. A cross between MAC 1 and Trophy Wife, two hybrids known for their mildly energizing effects, Apple Mac is noticeably more of a calming strain than those two. An $8 preroll from The Vault proved to be the perfect accent to the 80-degree weather I sat in Saturday evening on my porch.
With the number of new COVID-19 cases declining, Gov. Jay Inslee announced Thursday that Washington state’s economy will likely be able to reopen completely by June 30. Inslee also offered a big new carrot to Washingtonians still on the fence about getting the coronavirus vaccine: If the percentage of people age 16 and older with at least one shot reaches 70%, full reopening will happen even sooner. King County has already passed that milestone and new cases of the virus are trending steadily downward. Inslee says the plateau of new cases health officials saw earlier this month has transitioned into a downward trend in new cases. Although vaccine numbers also continue increasing, the governor announced several new incentives to get Washington adults vaccinated. Fully vaccinated people will be able to attend events such as indoor and outdoor sports, as well as live performances, weddings and funerals without limits.
Young Kwak photo SPD Chief Craig Meidl says activists are intentionally misreading stats to hurt this department. Others say he s the one not understanding the data about police violence. F
or nearly a year, local police-reform activists have been citing stats from Mapping Police Violence a database of police killings started by prominent Black Lives Matter protesters showing how the SPOKANE POLICE DEPARTMENT compared with other cities. We used to be fifth-deadliest, but that number has been adjusted, activist Anwar Peace told KREM last month. Now we re the third-deadliest police force in the nation. Police Chief Craig Meidl responded with a Facebook video on Friday, arguing those statistics were part of an inflammatory, damaging and dangerous narrative.
