Call to Arms:Fenland care communityâs young workforce uses Young Carers Action Day to encourage others to join the movement

A Fenland care community is calling for young people to consider a career in social care â with its young carers taking the spotlight to share why there is no better time to join the sector.
Askham Village Community, a specialist care and rehabilitation group, near Doddington, is shining a light on its young carers today (16th March) to mark Young Carers Action Day, and they are encouraging fellow young people to embrace a career in social care during a time when more people appreciate the importance of the role.
WREXHAM AFC has announced the club will be donating all money raised from Tuesday s live stream to benefit young carers across the region. In honour of Young Carers Action Day (March 16), all money raised will be given to the three regional Young Carers organisations - WCD Young Carers, NEWCIS and Action for Children. The club will also proudly celebrate the launch of the new North Wales Young Carers ID card during Tuesday’s match against Eastleigh. For half-time, the Wrexham AFC players have put together a video to launch the card, designed to give recognition to our community s young carers.
Today is Young Carers Action Day and campaigners are calling for a national plan to help the UK’s million young carers, some of whom were only five when they started.
Carers Trust boss Gareth Howells said: “Coronavirus, and our findings of its impact, have brought into sharp focus the unacceptable pressures young carers are under and the effect this is having on their wellbeing and life chances.
“We’re long past the time when sympathy and kind words for young carers is enough.
“Hundreds of thousands of young carers across the UK need real support and we are calling on the Government to urgently invest in support services for young carers to ensure they get the support they need.”
Kingdom FM Fife Young Carers has called on employers to be more understanding of the caring role.
The organisation supports children and young people between the ages of 8 and 25 who take care of someone in their family with an illness or disability.
Today is Young Carers Action Day, with the Carers Trust saying it s an annual day recognising the contribution young carers make to their families and local communities.
Young carers have been highlighting the skills they have developed including empathy, resilience and time management.
