MACKINAC ISLAND, MI - There have been some early signs that this will be a busy year on Mackinac Island, even before the new season officially kicked off at the beginning of May.
April ferry trips carried more weekend visitors than expected, and local residents seemed surprised to see vacationers exploring the island in the first few weeks of spring, before most restaurants and downtown shops had opened.
Along with these early tourists, recent weeks have seen a lot of hustle and bustle in the island’s downtown business district. Hotels, shops and other spots have all been putting the finishing touches on off-season renovations and construction projects.
