I love the smell of inevitability in the morning, and an election to Recall Gavin Newsom just became inevitable. The final count of verified signatures by the California Secretary of State:
1.7 million.
Confirmed by the local news.
NEW: The campaign to recall Governor Newsom announces that the California Secretary of State confirmed today that the campaign collected 1,719,943 verified signatures, which is more than 200,000 over the 1.5 million that was required. Goes to the ballot later this year.
And the data geeks.
1,719,943
Opponents hoping to short circuit the recall need to convince 224,234 voters to withdraw their signatures by June 8th, which seems like a tall order.https://t.co/Khb5QWeetDpic.twitter.com/zfitjtWWip

Just five days ago, now-former California Assemblyman Rob Bonta was sworn-in as the state’s Attorney General. And already he has a challenger for his spot as the state’s top law enforcement official: Sacramento County’s District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert.
On Monday, Schubert announced she would run for AG in 2022, saying “California s criminal justice system is in chaos.”
Shubert was first elected as DA in 2014 and is currently serving in her second term. A move to become Attorney General would also mean she would lose her chance to run for DA in Sacramento next year.

Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert announced on Monday that she is running for attorney general, challenging the recently appointed incumbent Rob Bonta.
Schubert made her official announcement while standing in front of families of violent crime victims, whose perpetrators she helped lock up during her 30 years as a career prosecutor. She didn’t take long to send shots at her opponent and other progressive prosecutors across California.
Throwing others under the bus for political gain
The thinking and actions of some elected officials is kind of hard to fathom.
You know the old saying accredited to Albert Einstein: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.”
The first example of “insanity” was how Mayor Lopez scheduled a special meeting on March 4 to talk about, for a fourth time, an appointment to the vacant council seat after seeing the steely resolve of Linda Ryno and Bret Silveira to appoint only Laurie Smith. Did the mayor honestly expect anyone to change their mind on March 4 after the continual deadlock of 2-2 during three prior meetings?
