SPRINGFIELD â Gov. J.B. Pritzker said Thursday that Illinois will enter the âbridgeâ phase to full reopening on Friday, May 14. And barring any reversal of current trends, Phase 5, or full reopening, will begin June 11.
He also announced that residents can now obtain COVID-19 vaccines from their physiciansâ offices, rather than just designated vaccine sites, as public health officials continue to confront hesitancy within many communities to accept the vaccines.
Thursdayâs announcement came as the state reached a new benchmark of having 55% of adults age 16 and over, and 80% of people age 65 and over, having received at least one dose of vaccine, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. Meanwhile, the daily number of new cases, hospitalization rates and intensive care unit usage have all been falling or leveling off.

“None of us are who we were at 19,” writes the author, Lt. LaSheda Brooks. “My father is no exception. Now he has been in prison for 28 years, more than half of his life.” Picture is the Vienna Correctional Center in Vienna, Illinois.

My dad, Antonio House, received a sentence of death by imprisonment when he was just 19 years old. Now he is 46 with a 13-year-old granddaughter.
In 1993, Cook County prosecutors charged my father with murder through Illinois’ law of accountability; my dad allegedly stood by railroad tracks and acted as a lookout while older men shot two gang rivals. This coming Tuesday, the Illinois Supreme Court will hear oral arguments about whether my dad should have a chance at a resentencing hearing.

The father of a man shot during an Illinois State Police traffic stop in Harvey last year said Thursday he wants the trooper involved in the incident criminally charged.
“He chose to be the jury, the judge and the executioner when he shot my son in the back of the head. He murdered my son. I want justice for my son to the highest power,” Darren Green Sr. told reporters at a news conference on the South Side.
Lawyers for Darren Green Jr. also said the trooper involved in the fatal traffic stop on Oct. 7, 2020, has a history of “stalking” motorists in Harvey for petty traffic offenses. Those lawyers played what they said was a 2013 dashcam video of the trooper who shot Green pulling a middle-aged woman from her car and handcuffing her during a traffic stop for speeding.
Washington State Enacts Law Increasing Penalties under the Consumer Protection Act
The Washington State Legislature enacted legislation increasing civil penalties under the state’s consumer protection law. By substantially raising civil penalties, the new law provides the Attorney General significantly more leverage in enforcing Washington’s consumer protection statute.
Under that statute, it is deemed unlawful for a business to employ “unfair methods of competition and unfair and deceptive acts or practices in the conduct of trade or commerce.” The Washington consumer protection act also contains penalties for violating the state’s antitrust law and prohibition on restraint of trade. Consumers or the Washington Attorney General may bring actions to enforce against violations of the act.
