February 17, 2021 MACOMB, IL – For faculty at Western Illinois University, watching their students excel in and out of the classroom is gratifying. When that academic work crosses over into the University s core values, and includes unique and ground breaking research, that pride is elevated.
As Recreation, Park and Tourism Administration (RPTA) graduate student Taylor Brooks, of Chicago, finishes her degree, she is doing research on the exploring how Black residents leisure choices and involvement are impacted by living in a rural part of the country. Her research helped her win the poster presentation division at last year s Graduate Research Day, and she recently presented her findings during the Illinois Park and Recreation Association (IPRA) conference earlier this month.

Lori Palmer, vice president of the Bartlett Park District, was recently elected vice chairman of the Illinois Association of Park Districts board of trustees.
As vice chairman, Palmer will assist the association with its mission of advancing Illinois park districts, forest preserves, conservation, recreation and special recreation agencies in their ability to preserve natural resources and improve the quality of life for all people in Illinois.
She will work with the 19-member board to advise the association in providing service, research, advocacy, public awareness and educational programs to its membership of 360 park, recreation, and conservation agencies and nearly 100 affiliated business partners.
