A SMALL group is trying to progress a new Petanque Court in the Ilkley Riverside Gardens, not far from the Riverside Hotel and are trying establish the number of players that might be interested, either in joining a club or in playing on an ad hoc basis. A group spokesman said: “Bradford Council and Ilkley Town Council are both supportive, as are the U3A. “We have the location and specification agreed and costed. The total cost will be around £8000 which we will need to raise.” Anyone interested is asked to email IlkleyPetanque@gmail.com Pétanque is a game that can be enjoyed by all the family and socially with friends for fun.
LONG time Ben Rhydding resident David Nunns has been selected as the Conservative candidate for the Ilkley Town Council by-election in Ben Rhydding. Speaking about his selection as candidate David said: “I am delighted to put myself forward to be a candidate for Ben Rhydding. “Having lived here for 40 years I know how special Ben Rhydding is and want to ensure that it will still be special for future generations. “If elected I will be working hard to ensure that the much-delayed neighbourhood plan finally gets enacted, continue to oppose the Labour-run Bradford Council local plan for houses in Ben Rhydding and stand up for Ben Rhydding unlike the current Green and Lib Dem town councillors who want to subsidise Bradford Council projects by raising taxes for local residents.”
BEN RHYDDING resident Susan Fricker has been chosen to contest the Ilkley Town Council by-election for her neighbourhood on behalf of the Labour Party in June. Susan has lived in the town for over a decade, raising her now-adult children and working across the West Yorkshire region as a practising barrister. She is a strong opponent of the housing proposals in the Draft Bradford Local Plan, which would open the door for developers to build 285 new houses in the Ben Rhydding Green Belt area. Ms Fricker, who is the co-chair of the Ilkley Labour Party, said: “I am delighted to have been selected to represent the Labour Party in the upcoming by-election in my home ward of Ben Rhydding.
