Three people from Perth County face charges after going to a church service in Aylmer. Police were monitoring Sunday’s service at the Church of God Restoration in anticipation of “breaches of the current Emergency Orders.”
Police say several persons of interest were identified and charged for violating the orders. During the investigation, police say two churchgoers began to interfere with officers and as a result, a 20-year-old man from Perth East and a 52-year-old woman from Shakespeare have been charged with obstructing police. Police also say another person charged a reporter in an aggressive and assaultive manner. The 48-year-old man from Perth East was charged with assault. All three were released on undertakings.
AYLMER, ONT. A local newspaper editor is speaking out after Aylmer police laid an assault charge against a 48-year-old man in connection with an altercation on Sunday. Brett Hueston says the man had crossed a public road in front of the controversial Church of God Restoration (COGR) in the town’s north end. Hueston was stationed there, not far from the police. It all happened minutes after the (COGR) held an indoor service. In a video posted to the church’s YouTube page, unmasked parishioners and visitors, including independent federal MP Derek Sloan and independent MPP Randy Hillier, could be seen at the front of the congregation.

It was an inexplicable decision on so many levels.
Five weeks ago, with the warning signs of a third wave of COVID-19 clearly on the horizon, Premier Brian Pallister announced he would allow people to attend indoor faith-based services without the burden of wearing masks.
It was a bold, surprising and in the minds of many medical professionals risky decision. And there was one glaring a problem.
