The bulls consolidated their hold on the market yesterday as buying interests in Dangote Cement Plc, MTN Nigeria Plc and Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc lifted the benchmark index further.
The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) All-Share Index (ASI) rose by 1.54 per cent to close at 40,963.14, while market capitalisation rose by N325.3 billion to close at N21.4 trillion.
Also, volume and value of trading rose 72.9 per cent and 27.9 per cent respectively to 809.4 million shares and N8.9 billion. Year-to-date, the NSE ASI has gained 1.7 per cent.
The bulls clearly dominated the market as 49 stocks gaineds compared with seven price losers. Champion Breweries Plc led the price gainers with 9.8 per cent, trailed by NASCON Allied Industries Plc with 9.7 per cent. Japaul Gold Ventures Plc and AXA Mansard Insurance Plc chalked up 9.4 per cent apiece.
For over a decade now, Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc has consistently maintained a confident A- rating with the international rating agency, Global Credit Rating, based in South Africa.
The Rating Agency’s recent solvency and operational report for financial institutions in Nigeria and other allied businesses released in December 2020 affirmed that Sovereign Trust Insurance Plc has great potentials for growth in the years ahead considering some of the strategies that have been put in place to propel its operations.
Global Credit Rating noted that the Company has shown a great deal of consistency in her claims-paying obligations to her numerous customers spread all over the country.

Investors staked N7.51 billion on 2.13 billion shares in 4,558 deals yesterday at the stock market as the bulls continued to dominate trading. The value of trading soared by 755 per cent compared to 249.545 million shares exchanged for N2.184 billion in 6,090 deals the previous day. Champion Breweries Plc was the most traded stock by volume and value at 1.91 billion shares and N4.95 billion respectively.
The sustained bullish trend lifted the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) All-Share Index (ASI) by 0.31 per cent to close at 40,490.85, while market capitalisation added N65.7 billion to be at N21.2 trillion.
The gain was bolstered by buying interest in Seplat Petroleum Development Company Plc, Nigerian Breweries Plc and Guaranty Trust Bank Plc. In all, 27 stocks appreciated, while 14 depreciated.

Stock market suffers N393bn loss on profit-taking

The equities market closed on a negative note on Tuesday, declining by 1.83 per cent as profit-taking hit the market following investors’ moves to increase capital gains.
The Nigerian Stock Exchange All-Share Index dropped by 751.25 basis points or 1.83 per cent from 41,147.39bps the previous day to 40,396.14bps while the market capitalisation of equities depreciated by N393bn to close at N21.12tn from N21.52tn.
On the activity chart, the premium sub-sector dominated in volume terms with 106.03 million shares exchanged in 2,123 deals. The subsector was enhanced by the activities in the shares of Access Bank Plc and Zenith Bank Plc.
