Series XII of the central government’s Sovereign Gold Bond (SGB) scheme 2020-21 opened for subscription on March 1, 2021. The twelfth issue of SGBs is priced at Rs 4,662 per gram of gold and are available for a discount of Rs 50 per gram.
SGBs, issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), are government securities denominated in grams of gold. They are digital substitutes for holding physical gold. Investors pay the issue price in cash and the bonds will be redeemed in cash on maturity.

It is issued by the Reserve Bank India on behalf of the Government of India. The Bonds are be denominated in multiples of gram(s) of gold with a basic unit of 1 gram.Â
The government in consultation with the Reserve Bank of India has decided to allow discount of Rs 50 per gram from the issue price to those investors who apply online and the payment is made through digital mode. For such investors the issue price of Gold Bond will be Rs 4,612 per gram of gold.
The sovereign gold bond scheme, that opened for subscription from today, will close on March 5. The issue price of the bond is the lowest in the last 10 months.
Gold Bond Scheme: The tenth tranche of the sovereign gold bond scheme, which opened for subscription on Monday, January 11, will be available for investing till Friday (January 15)
