Leitrim TD says Coroners’ system requires urgent reform

Sinn Féin spokesperson on Justice and Sligo/Leitrim TD, Martin Kenny, has welcomed the publication of a ‘damning’ report into the coroners’ system which makes 52 recommendations for reform of a system not fit for purpose.
Speaking following the launch of the study ‘Death Investigation, Coroners’ Inquests and the Rights of the Bereaved’ by the Irish Council for Civil Liberties, Teachta Kenny said: “This report is a damning indictment of the coronial system. It is clear that the system is not fit for purpose and is in need of urgent reform. Bereaved families deserve appropriate support and access to justice, instead this report warns that their trauma is being compounded by this inadequate system.

NORFOLK, Va. Detectives discovered the body of a missing 33-year-old woman near the Norfolk Premium Outlets this weekend, according to police.
Norfolk Police said officers were investigating an undetermined death at 1600 Premium Outlets Boulevard after receiving a call around 12:05 p.m. Saturday.
Police said the body of Sentara J. Moore was found in a pond near the outlet mall.
Moore was last seen Monday when her vehicle was found unattended in a nearby parking lot.
Norfolk Police Harbor Patrol Unit responded and recovered her body from the water, officials said.
No foul play is suspected, according to police.

UVALDE COUNTY, Texas – A death investigation is underway after a woman was fatally struck by a vehicle early Easter morning, according to the Uvalde County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident happened shortly after midnight Sunday at the Heartstone subdivision in Concan, Texas.
Deputies said two men were leaving a home in the subdivision when they fatally struck the female pedestrian.
