Commissioners talk grants, courts building

The Darke County Board of Commissioners met Wednesday afternoon to discuss the CHIP HOME Repair grant and the court’s purchase of 311 S. Broadway in Greenville. The board also recognized Wayne HealthCare for the grand opening of its new addition to the hospital.

GREENVILLE The Darke County Board of Commissioners met Wednesday afternoon to discuss the CHIP HOME repair grant, and the Darke County court’s purchase of 311 S. Broadway. Commissioners Matt Aultman, Mike Stegall, and Larry Holmes were all present.
The board approved Resolution (R-52-2021). This resolution awarded the CHIP HOME Repair grant to a Greenville resident for the installation of a dimensional shingled roof and spouting. This grant is a home improvement grant dedicated to improving low to moderate income homes in Darke County. Residents apply for portions of the grant funds, and county officials

A young father in mental distress and whose family say was also trying to rededicate his life to God, shot himself inside an Ohio church where he went to get help Monday night.
“He tried to commit suicide,” Jennifer LyAnn Prewitt, the mother of the distressed father, Vincent Veloz, 25, of Celina, told The Christian Post on Wednesday.
Deputies from the Darke County Sheriff’s Office told WHIOTV7 that Veloz went to speak with Pastor Tim Pol of Greenville Baptist Church on Monday evening, but things took a tragic turn as Veloz spoke with the pastor.

Greenville church gunman shoots self, airlifted

Darke County first responders deployed to Greenville Baptist Temple Monday evening on reports of a male subject with a rifle. After a 3-hour standoff, the man reportedly shot himself and was transported by CareFlight to Dayton for treatment of critical injuries. No other people on the scene were injured.

GREENVILLE A 25-year-old Celina man was airlifted for medical care Monday evening after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a 3-hour standoff with law enforcement at Greenville Baptist Temple.
At approximately 6:19 p.m., the Darke County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting that a gunman armed with a rifle was at the Greenville Baptist Temple, located at 4689 Childrens Home Bradford Road, prompting a massive response from both the Darke County Sheriff’s Office and the Greenville Police Department.
