GREENFIELD Department of Public Works Director Marlo Warner informed School Committee members and school administrators this week that the Sanderson Street reconstruction project, which will begin in the spring or summer of 2022, will impact Greenfield Middle School.
Speaking to the School Committee during its Wednesday night meeting, Warner said the “major project” that will cost the city $1.5 million will affect everyone on Sanderson Street from Federal to High streets, and then High Street to Parkway Street just below the mountain on which Poet’s Seat Tower sits.

Last weekend, after taking a Saturday walk up to Poet’s Seat Tower, I decided I had to hike to a higher vantage to truly take in the view. The next day was forecast to be sunny and 70, so my girlfriend Vanessa and I decided to hike to the stone fire tower on Mount Massamet in Shelburne. We opted for the less-strenuous Ridge Trail, which starts from the High Ledges Audubon Sanctuary, and crosses some private land before it links up with the final stretch of the road to the tower.

Residents invited to review Open Space and Recreation Plan
GREENFIELD The city is hosting a public meeting via Zoom to review a draft of its 2021 Open Space and Recreation Plan (OSRP) on Tuesday, April 20, at 6 p.m.
Members on the OSRP Planning Committee include representatives from the Department of Planning and Development, Recreation Department, Department of Public Works, Tree Committee, City Council, Cultural District Committee, Greening Greenfield and others, according to a notice from Allison Gage, land use and natural resources planner with the Franklin Regional Council of Governments (FRCOG). The committee also put out a survey to inform the plan’s update, and received about 270 responses.
