Chatham-Kent Council is working on a long-term plan to deal with flooding and erosion on Erie Shore Drive.
Council has approved the release of a request for proposal to hire a third-party engineering consultant to make a preliminary report to consider better use, maintenance and repair of any drainage works within the Burk Drainage Scheme, which includes the area around Erie Shore Drive.
A preliminary report is thought to be the most logical approach because it will include high-level design concepts and cost estimates for the proposed work and how much landowners will have to pay.

Water levels on Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair continue to remain high, just under historical average records for the month of January.
While they have dropped half a metre since their peak last May, they are close to the same levels they were this time last year, the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority said.

Average daily water levels on Lake Erie at the beginning of this month were around 174.7 metres. This is down about 45 cm from the peak daily average record set in May 2020. It is also two centimetres higher than it was Jan. 1 of last year.

A gale warning was Sunday issued for western Lake Erie.
Winds were light to moderate across the region and generally from the southeast, said the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority.

Forecasts were predicting that winds would pick up Sunday afternoon and switch to the south. Winds were expected to switch to the southwest overnight Sunday. On the lake, sustained speeds could reach 35 kilometres per hour by early Sunday evening, officials said.
Winds were predicted to peak overnight, with sustained speeds between 40 and 60 km/h, and gusts between 65 and 90 km/h. High winds were expected to continue into Monday morning before switching to the west and dropping in the late morning.
