COLUMBUS, Ohio – In a contest that saw five singles matches go to a third set, the No. 9 Ohio State women’s tennis team fell to No. 13 Northwestern, 4-3, Sunday in consolation play at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Stillwater, Okla.
The Wildcats won the doubles point and Buckeye senior Luna Dormet tied the match with a straight-set victory on court six. The remaining five matches went to a third set, with four first set wins by the Buckeyes. Ohio State went ahead 3-1, as Irina Cantos Siemers won on court one and Isabelle Boulais was victorious on court two. Northwestern won the final three matches, overcoming first-set losses on courts three, four and five. The team point came down to a third-set tiebreaker on court five.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Irina Cantos Siemers, a sophomore on the No. 9 Ohio State women’s tennis team, has been named the UTR ITA Player of the Week, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Thursday. Cantos Siemers, from Barcelona, Spain, posted three wins to help the Buckeyes advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
Playing court two for the Buckeyes, Cantos Siemers, ranked 78th, posted a three-set win over No. 11-ranked Natasha Subhash of Virginia, tying the team score at two en route to a 4-2 Buckeye victory Sunday. In singles Saturday, Cantos Siemers led No. 121 Viktoriya Kanapatskaya of Syracuse, 6-2, 4-4, when the Buckeyes clinched the 4-0 team victory and her match was suspended.

Syracuse opened its 2021 season Saturday morning with a 4-0 loss to Ohio State at the 13th annual ITA Kickoff Weekend.
The Orange returned four of six starters from last year’s roster, including Miranda Ramirez, who’s eligible for her fifth season. But Syracuse lost the doubles round 2-1 and was unable to mount a comeback during the singles round, leading to the Orange’s first loss in a spring season-opener since 2017.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 13-ranked Ohio State women’s tennis team begins dual match play at the new Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus this weekend, hosting four ITA Kickoff Weekend matches.
The Buckeyes (0-0) will take on Syracuse (0-0) at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by a match between No. 10 Virginia (0-0) and Tennessee (3-0) at noon. The winners will meet in the championship match at 1 p.m. Sunday, preceded by the consolation match at 10 a.m.
There will be no general public access to the event in Columbus; live scoring and video will be available for all six courts. In addition, Cracked Racquets will be providing play-by-play commentary on its YouTube stream and switching from site to site to create the “RedZone of college tennis” throughout the weekend.
