Pakistan s army chief visited Afghanistan on Monday to meet President Ashraf Ghani, Afghan government sources said, at a time of heightened uncertainty for the region as violence rises while the United States withdraws troops.
Pakistan Army Chief of Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa was meeting Ghani as well as other Afghan leaders in Kabul, the sources told Reuters on condition of anonymity as they were not authorised to speak with media.

ISLAMABAD: UK Chief of Defence Staff General Sir Nicholas Patrick Carter called on Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa in Rawalpindi on Monday and discussed matters of mutual interest and regional security situation particularly current developments in Afghan peace process.
The measures to further enhance bilateral and defence cooperation were also discussed in the meeting.
The army chief offered his condolences on the sad demise of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and said that the world has lost a highly-respected friend. General Bajwa said the Pakistan Army greatly values its friendly relations with the UK. The visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan’s sincere efforts for peace and stability in the region, especially the Afghan peace process.

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa and Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani Monday exchanged views on the Afghan peace process among other matters.
The meeting took place in Kabul as the army chief has arrived in the Afghan capital on a day-long visit, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
The ISPR said matters of mutual interest, current developments in the Afghan peace process, enhanced bilateral security and defence cooperation, and the need for effective border management between the two brotherly countries were discussed during the meeting.
