HAMBURG, N.Y. (WKBW-TV) â The COVID-19 pandemic is keeping many people home this holiday season which is resulting in a historic number of packages being sent. This year, we have seen more packages than we have ever seen in our 40-year history of being here, said Andrew Nyhart, owner of Lind-Hart Mini Ship in Hamburg.
The independent shipping store works with the U.S. Postal Service, UPS, FedEx, and DHL. Nyhart said he is getting 600 packages per day dropped off at his business.

Making matters worse, the Washington Post reports that private express carriers FedEx and UPS have completely cut off delivery service for some retailers, sending tons of packages to USPS, which bogs down the system even further.

The U.S. Postal Service is prepping for its busiest week of the holiday mailing and shipping season.
Dec. 14 through Dec. 21 is traditionally busy as residents send gifts, packages and Christmas cards to family and friends, but 2020 has been “an extraordinary year of unprecedented challenges” due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the USPS is expecting significant increases in the volume of mail and packages.
