Chamber Corner: Worcester chamber successfully pushing for expanded vocational school access
David Sullivan
The Worcester Regional Chamber of Commerce is helping to take the lead statewide in advocating for increased access to the vocational technical education system in Massachusetts.
The chamber is a co-founding partner of the Alliance for Vocational Technical Education (AVTE), a statewide coalition of other chambers of commerce, workforce development groups, associations of school administrators and social justice groups. This year, AVTE has been focused on passing several bills through the state Legislature that expand access to vocational technical schools and programs.
These bills, S.357, S.348, H.666, and H.652, were recently referred to the Joint Committee on Education and received a hearing July 6. The chamber, as well as its allies in AVTE, testified in support at the virtual hearing.

If you ask most musicians, regardless of what kind of music they play, to give an opinion on disco, it s most likely going to be negative. When asked, Worcester musician Daniel Gay said he thought it was, “vacuous and soulless, hedonistic and cocaine-fueled.”
“I used to say, Disco is why God created punk,” admits Pamela Tiger, of the band Punk Rock Treehouse, “and I still do, because I still don t like it much more than I ever did back then.” Veteran Worcester rocker and poet David Jahn says, “Once upon a time, I despised disco. Found much of it genuinely unlistenable. But held pretty much anything commercially successful in contempt as well.”

The traffic operations plan is designed to prohibit pedestrian traffic on MD 4, to designate pedestrian travel areas along Solomons Island Road and to limit issues for the post event traffic control.
The State Highway Administration (SHA) and Calvert County Highway Maintenance personnel will be blocking off restricted areas with traffic cones and/or designated traffic control devices to prohibit vehicular parking. These designated “no parking” areas will serve as pedestrian traffic accessways to and from the designated parking locations to the Fireworks viewing area. All pedestrian traffic is to adhere to sidewalks and/or designated pedestrian travel areas for obvious safety purposes.
