JACKSON, Tenn. LIFELINE Blood Services says they are in critical need of blood donations.
LIFELINE released their inventory numbers for various blood types on Monday. LIFELINE says these numbers were updated at 8 a.m. April 19:
O-positive: in stock, 9 units; goal, 142 units
A-positive: in stock, 2 units; goal 82 units
B-positive: in stock, 2 units; goal, 37 units
O-negative: in stock, 6 units; goal 34 units
LIFELINE says the need for blood is a national issue, but it hinders LIFELINE’s ability to import blood from other centers, according to a news release.
Blood centers across the country have reported declines in blood collections recently, and some, including LIFELINE, have reported the lowest donor turnout in over a year, the release says.

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Mississippi Blood Services says there’s a critical need for blood donations in the Magnolia State.
The agency is pleading for donors to give blood.
MBS says blood suppliers are at critically low levels and they’re unable to supply some orders to local hospitals.
Donating can help save a life because the blood is often used in treatment for trauma victims, patients with blood disorders, those undergoing cancer treatments, and even those fighting COVID, MBS says.

Canadian Blood Services has confirmed to Moose FM that they will no longer be holding blood drive clinics in Bancroft.
A spokesperson for Blood Services says that connectivity concerns were the reason for stopping the service, as they say a strong and consistent cell signal is essential to operating a mobile donation clinic. These issues have been persistent for years.
Blood Services add that holding a donation event in a remote location impacts their ability to ship blood donations to their facilities. They also factor in a number of other issues as well, such as the number of donations collected, labour and transport costs. They say because of this, they must focus on gathering donations in larger population centers.

Canada has a healthy supply of blood despite the year-long pandemic that has exhausted health-care systems and lockdowns that have prevented people from donating.
Partly due to postponed elective surgeries, but also thanks to loyal donors who did not stop giving blood, blood banks are not seeing a shortage of blood supply or of donors, said Dr. Tanya Petraszko, director of medical services and hospital relations for Canadian Blood Services.
