Calaveras County Homecoming hops on after two-year break

After two years, the Calaveras County Fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee is back with a whole new look.
For its big return, the homecoming event s theme is Back in the Saddle Again and begins Thursday, May 13 through Sunday, May 16.
Although this homecoming event is different than the traditional county fair and Jumping Frog Jubilee, it will feature some of its classic events like the marketplace, local horse events, the Miss Calaveras Scholarship Pageant, Saddle Queen competition, and kiddie carnival.

NORWALK, Conn. The Consulate General of Mexico came to Norwalk to help get local citizens vaccinated.
About 50 doses were administered at the special COVID-19 clinic held Saturday by the City, Consulate General of Mexico in New York, Norwalk Community Health Center, and Cornerstone Community Church, a City press release said. Since Friday, there were 23 new positive cases reported in Norwalk, bringing the total to 11,416. There have been no deaths reported since April 27.
As of Wednesday, more than 53% of Norwalk residents had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccination, including more than 48% of residents 15-44 years of age; more than 73% of residents 45-64 years of age; and 99% of residents 65 years of age and older, the City reported. Both Pfizer and Moderna - two of the three COVID-19 vaccines approved for distribution in the US - have seen promising results in combating variants of the virus in recent studies.
This week, both pharmaceutical companies released results of clinical trials that show the vaccines are effective in combating COVID-19 variants, including the prominent strains from South Africa and Brazil.
Moderna has been testing a 50-microgram dose of its vaccine in previously vaccinated people, which found the booster dose increased neutralizing antibody responses against the original virus as well as the variants.
Pfizer has also been testing booster shots, though the high protection rate of the vaccine against the original strain may prove that a third shot is unnecessary, according to some experts.
