JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - For more than three years, buses from across the state and beyond brought students to the Mississippi Civil Rights and Mississippi History Museums.
That changed during the pandemic but now students are still roaming museum halls, now doing it virtually.
âThese were three of the men that were killed, James Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Schwerner,â said MS Civil Rights Museum Curator of Education Roosevelt Hawkins, while pointing to a wall dedicated to three Civil Rights workers killed in Philadelphia in 1964.

Local leaders question bill to change how MDAH board members are appointed Mississippi State Capitol (Source: WLBT) By Anthony Warren | March 6, 2021 at 2:46 PM CST - Updated March 8 at 9:14 AM
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.
That’s the stance many state and local leaders, and history buffs alike, are taking in response to the Senate’s passage of S.B. 2727.
The bill mandates that new members of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Board of Trustees be appointed by the governor or lieutenant governor.
Right now, members are appointed by fellow trustees, making the board the only self-perpetuating board in the state.
