Hapag-Lloyd Exercises Option for Further ME-GI Engines | Hellenic Shipping News Worldwide

Hapag-Lloyd Exercises Option for Further ME-GI Engines Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) has ordered 6 × MAN B&W 11G95ME-GI Mk10.5 main engines in connection with the building of 6 × ultra-large, 23,500+-teu container vessels for Hapag-Lloyd, one of the world’s leading liner-shipping companies. The new order stems from an option associated with an identical order for six such vessels originally announced in December 2020, where Hapag-Lloyd also chose the environmentally-friendly ME-GI engine. The engines will be built in Korea and offer the option of operating on LNG or conventional fuel, meeting Tier III emission standards through SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction). The first engine delivery is scheduled for May 2022. DSME is set to deliver the first six boxships between April – December 2023, with the six ships covered by the new option scheduled for delivery by end-2024.

Trafigura to Co-Sponsor Development of MAN Energy Solutions Ammonia Engine | Hellenic Shipping News Worldwide

Trafigura to Co-Sponsor Development of MAN Energy Solutions Ammonia Engine Trafigura Group Pte Ltd, one of the world’s leading independent commodity trading companies, is continuing its investment in renewable energy technologies by co-sponsoring the development of MAN Energy Solutions ammonia-fuelled engine for maritime vessels. The fuel-flexible, two-stroke ammonia engine is expected to be commercially available for large-scale ocean-going ships by 2024, followed by a retrofit package to make existing maritime vessels capable of running on ammonia by 2025. According to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), maritime shipping emits around 1,056 million tons of carbon dioxide per year and is responsible for around 2.9 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions. Without mitigation, emissions are projected to grow by as much as 130 percent in 2050, compared to 2008 levels.

MAN bags dual-fuel engine deal for Seaspan s boxhips

Posted: about 1 month ago “This is just the latest order the well-proven ME-GI concept has won in recent months. Its service experience, low methane slip, high efficiency, and fuel flexibility – whether running on fuel-oil or LNG – remain unparalleled in a market whose momentum towards a zero-carbon future is growing rapidly,” Thomas S. Hansen, Head of Promotion and Customer Support, Two-Stroke Business, MAN Energy Solutions, said. The ME-GI engines will come with a newly introduced Pump Vaporizer Unit (PVU), which ensures an optimal integration between the engine and LNG-supply system. MAN Energy Solutions announced in January 2021 that its low-speed, dual-fuel references in their entirety had exceeded 360 units, with the ME-GI recording over 1.5 million operating hours on LNG alone.
