Our view: Looking ahead to a normal Licking County summer

This past week s weather has made us - and we suspect most of you - ready for summer. Temperatures nearing 80 degrees with bright sunshine helped generate smiles across Licking County as we move towards a post-pandemic life. New CDC guidelines and Ohio regulations have lifted most of the COVID-19 restrictions we ve borne over the past 14 months. Restaurants and shops no longer need to require masks for vaccinated customers, sports and entertainment venues will soon no longer need to restrict capacity and people are largely allowed to return to their activities enjoyed pre-pandemic. Of course this doesn t mean COVID-19 is completely over. Unfortunately, it may never truly be gone with large segments of the population expressing skepticism or outright antipathy toward the vaccine.

The News Journal Gorman Jones Roberts Sr – The News Journal

Gorman Jones Roberts, Sr., 96, of Louisville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 11, 2021. Gorman was born on May 18, 1924 in Knoxville, TN, the only child of Thomas Jefferson and Dorothy Jones Roberts. He grew up in Williamsburg, KY where his father was president of the bank and his mother was a schoolteacher and the church organist. Gorman graduated from Cumberland Academy at age 15, and attended Cumberland College, spending his summers at Culver Military Academy. Gorman cherished his early years fishing and playing sports. He was an excellent baseball player and was offered professional contracts by both the Yankees and Reds, playing briefly for the Yankees, backing up Joe DiMaggio in center field.
