Taliban, US in Talks Over Full Withdrawal by July: Sources
Americans and the Taliban are discussing the possibility of ending the withdrawal process by the beginning of July, sources familiar with the matter said.
The Taliban will return to the talks, will attend the Turkey conference and will reduce violence if there is an agreement on the matter, the sources said.
The US began its withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan this week, and, based on President Joe Biden’s decision, the process was to be completed by Sept. 11. According to the Doha agreement, the US was expected to complete the withdrawal by May 1.
Acting Attorney General Zabihullah Kalim Takes Office
Zabihullah Kalim, a graduate of Al Azhar University in Egypt and the University of California, assumed office as the acting attorney general at a ceremony in Kabul on Sunday, during which he was asked by Second Vice President Sarwar Danesh to not bow to pressure from strongmen and the wealthy.
He was also asked by the second vice president to ensure justice and to strengthen the fight against corruption.
“(The attorney general) should not be influenced by anyone in ensuring justice; otherwise, the Attorney General’s Office will change into a tool for strongmen or wealthy men,” Danesh said.

Targeted Killings are Attack on New Generation: Ghani
President Ashraf Ghani in a cabinet meeting on Monday said that the attacks on journalists and civil society activists are an attack on a generation and an attempt to destabilize the country and demoralize the new generation.
Five journalists and two civil society activists have been killed in various incidents since November 7.
“Recent terrorist attacks on media, civil society and political activists and other members of our citizenry are attacks on a generation and on all the values of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan,” Ghani said. “The motive (behind the attacks) is to remove stability, trust and to create help helplessness among the new generation, particularly women in Afghanistan.”
3 Suspects Arrested in Yama Siawash Case: MoI
Security forces have arrested three suspects for involvement in the Nov. 7 blast that killed three people, including former TOLOnews anchor Yama Siawash, the interior minister Massoud Andarabi said in a meeting on Sunday.
The meeting was attended by members of the joint committee of the government and the media led by Second Vice President Sarwar Danesh, his office said in a statement.
Recent attacks on journalists and civil society activists were discussed and security agencies reported on their actions for the incidents.
Danesh said the recent incidents have been shocking for the people in which known figures were targeted.
