July is Home Energy Aid Month in Oklahoma, and perhaps never has the need to help the less fortunate with utility costs been so great. The current heat of summer, the record-setting cold of last winter and the economic impact of the pandemic mean many Oklahomans are struggling to keep essential utility services.
It has been my honor to serve on The Salvation Army Central Oklahoma s advisory board for almost 11 years, and I have seen first-hand the difference its utility assistance program can make. But in most communities, The Salvation Army is able to help only a handful of households per month because there just isn’t enough funding.

As we get closer to summer it s going to get hotter and hotter.
And for many without a cooling system in their home they have few options.
Starting Thursday Westlake Ace Hardware stores are partners with the Salvation Army to help those citizens keep cool this summer.
Westlake Ace Hardware stores throughout Oklahoma are gearing up to host their annual fan drive benefitting the Salvation Army.
The fan drive will be held in 121 stores nationwide June 3-20.
During the fan drive, Westlake Ace Hardware customers are asked to donate by rounding up their purchase at the register.

The Salvation Army of Central Oklahoma has received a $20,000 grant from the Oklahoma City Community Foundation and its Elderly iFund Grant Initiative.
