IC man accused of parking in the middle of the street, turning off his car, and passing out

4/17/21 Iowa City Police say a man parked in the middle of the street, turned off his car and passed out. Officers were called to McCollister Boulevard near the Sycamore Street roundabout just before 9:15 Friday night for a car stopped in the middle of the roadway. Because of the design of McCollister Boulevard…with single, narrow lanes on each side of a raised median…cars behind the stopped vehicle were unable to pass or turn around. A stopped motorist investigated, and reported finding 43-year-old Melchor Aranda Montelongo of the Breckenridge Estates manufactured housing community passed out behind the wheel. The motorist was able to wake Aranda Montelongo up and remove him from the vehicle. Arriving officers say Aranda Montelongo showed multiple signs of intoxication. Open beer cans were also found inside the vehicle, and Aranda Montelongo allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol before driving. His blood alcohol content was registered at .237% and .231%.
