Oh the drama! The queen is dead. Murdered – by her own subjects! Actress Jane Horrocks is horrified, yet gripped. ‘It’s like the Scottish play,’ she says. What will happen now? Well, her old friend, fellow actress Esther Coles, knows what’s coming.
Let’s just say the script is predictable. A new queen will be installed, and then she will set about securing her dynasty. She will take lovers. ‘How many?’ asks Jane, who is by now hooked. ‘Between 14 and 20,’ says Esther, and yes, at the same time. ‘She’s a bit of a hussy,’ a shocked Jane concludes.

Dame Diana Rigg has been a MASTERPIECE regular for decades. From her Emmy Award-winning role in the 1997 adaptation of
Rebecca to her years-long host duty on
Mystery!, Rigg brought her charm and considerable gravitas to PBS TV screens for years. Rigg passed away in September 2020, making her role as the elegant Mrs. Pumphrey one of her very last. The
All Creatures Great and Small cast pays tribute to Rigg, along with some of her other MASTERPIECE friends and castmates.
