The first Super Over of this IPL was a battle of attrition on a sticky Chennai pitch, where even the eliminator was a low-scoring affair. These scrappy affairs on such pitches have seen batsmen struggling in the latter half, and the Super Over saw more drama with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper David Warner adjudged one short. Set eight to win in the Super Over, Delhi Capitals (DC) won off the last ball.

Rishabh Pant’s decision to bat first seemed the right move for DC with Prithvi Shaw providing a blazing start. Three boundaries to start the match off Khaleel Ahmed, thrust into the lead role after Bhuvneshwar pulled up sore and Suchith made his debut, was an ideal start on a day when the SRH attack struggled to find their radar and poor fielding added to their misery as Delhi Capitals posted 159/4.

Across the 13 completed editions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) the Kolkata Knight Riders have been one of the more popular franchises. A superstar co-owner, some very big international names across seasons and two IPL titles (2012 and 2014) have made KKR one of the more keenly followed teams in the league. They are also one of only three franchises (MI, CSK, KKR) to have won the title more than once.
However the team has struggled to live up to its potential for a while now.
The last time KKR made the play-offs cut was in the 2018 edition, when they finished third after the league stage, behind Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings. They eventually lost in Qualifier 2 to SRH by 14 runs.
Bengaluru becoming hotbed of Covid
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) replaced Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the top of the Indian Premier League (IPL) table while SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) fell six points behind the top three.
RCB eventually fell to third at the end of Sunday s round of matches after their win over SRH in the season s first Super Over.
Ravindra Jadeja s all-round brilliance helped CSK beat RCB by 69 runs in the first match on Sunday. Jadeja smashed 62 runs off 28 balls, of which 37 came off the final over of the CSK innings. He then took three wickets for 13 runs.
Later in the day, Kane Williamson s unbeaten 66 helped SRH tie the scores and force their match against DC into Super Over. SRH batted first and managed to score seven runs, which DC chased down over the course of their Super Over.
