Marshalltown School District Superintendent Dr. Theron Schutte informs the Marshalltown School Board Monday of his intention to bring a proposal forth in the board’s next meeting to withdraw from the Central Iowa Metro League (CIML) and form a new athletic conference with Ames, Mason City, Fort Dodge, Ottumwa and the five Des Moines public schools.
Monday was a chaotic day for the Central Iowa Metro League. It also raised questions about the future of the conference.
A leaked letter revealed what had been going on behind the scenes for weeks between superintendents and athletic directors Marshalltown, along with nine other current CIML members (Ames, Mason City, Ottumwa, Fort Dodge and all five Des Moines Public Schools), is planning to leave the CIML to form a new athletic conference.

In recent weeks, state and county inspectors have discovered potentially dangerous sushi, moldy fruit and cheese, seven-month-old eggs and even a baby’s crib inside the kitchens of Iowa restaurants.
Their findings are reported by the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals, which handles food-establishment inspections at the state level.
Listed below are some of the more serious findings that stem from restaurant inspections conducted throughout Iowa since the first of January.
The state inspections department reminds the public that their reports are a “snapshot” in time, and violations are often corrected on the spot before the inspector leaves the establishment. For a more complete list of all inspections, along with additional details on each of the inspections listed below, visit the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals’ web site.

Known for his hip-hop videos rapping to Marshalltown High School students about social distancing and wearing masks dubbing himself the ‘hip-hop administrator,’ Associate Principal William Terry said hip-hop can be an effective form of delivering uplifting messages and advocating for equality.
One of Terry’s missions has been helping students adjust to the turbulent present.
“One of my goals has been to get students comfortable with this new world we’re living in with coronavirus, getting acclimated to wearing masks,” he said.
Another goal for Terry has been opening up the atmosphere at Marshalltown High School to be a place to discuss important social issues.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded with Marshalltown Police Department and Unity Point EMS to 108 N. 11th Street to a reported house fire in the early morning hours on Sunday.
The fire was called in by a motorist. On arrival, size-up was completed and fire was visible on the first floor and in the attic at the rear of the building. No one was living in the home at this time.
Crews deployed two handlines and made an interior fire attack on the first floor. Crews were successful in extinguishing the main body of the fire, but the attic space was not accessible as the interior staircase had burned away.
