(File Photo) MUMBAI: Following the state s partial lockdown that came into force on Monday evening, all places of worship closed until April 30. Babulnath Mandir, Mumbadevi and Siddhivinayak were off bounds for devotees as was Haji Ali Dargah and all churches. The Archdiocese of Bombay announced that all churches will be closed until April 30. The Archbishop of Bombay Oswald Cardinal Gracias issued guidelines for all sacraments including baptism, confirmation, confession, marriage and burial to be followed until then. He supplemented the circular with a video message to priests, urging them to obey all Covid protocol like masks in order to prevent even accidental infection .

The government said essential services should ensure social distancing between customers on their premises. “Malls, restaurants and bars will remain closed, but takeaway service will remain in operation,” minister Nawab Malik said after a cabinet meeting. “Government and semi-government offices will run with 50% capacity while private offices will have to go for ‘work from home’.” Public transport will operate at 50 % capacity. Autos and taxis will be allowed two passengers. There will be no standing passengers allowed on buses and local trains. Gymnasiums, salons and beauty parlours will remain shut. Only restaurants and bars inside hotels and which are an integral part of the hotel will remain open. On weekends, only home delivery services will be allowed between 7am and 8pm no person may visit any restaurant or bar.

(File Photo) MUMBAI: A day after recording more than 11,000 Covid-19 cases in a day - the highest so far - Mumbai reported less than 10,000 infections at 9,857 on Monday, while 21 more patients died due to the disease, the city civic body said. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation s (BMC) updated data, 9,857 new cases took the tally of Covid-19 cases to 4,62,302, while the death toll jumped to 11,797. On Sunday, the city had witnessed the highest ever 11,163 new Covid-19 cases. The number of fatalities also went down to 21 from 25 on Sunday. According to the BMC, 3,357 more people were discharged from hospitals during the day, pushing the number of recovered patients to 3,74,985.

Sachin Waze, who has been in the NIA custody for 22 days, denied holding such an account. MUMBAI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) told the special court on Saturday that suspended assistant police inspector Sachin Waze had a joint account and a locker with an accomplice at the Development Credit Bank (DCB), Versova. The NIA has alleged that Rs 26.5 lakh was in the account on March 8. However, incriminating material was removed from the locker on March 18 five days after Waze’s arrest on March 13, said additional solicitor general Anil Singh while seeking extension of Waze’s custody on Saturday. Special judge Prashant R Sitre sent Waze to NIA custody till April 7.

Image used for representational purpose only LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UP STF) on Saturday arrested a sharpshooter, Irfan Sonu, in connection with the murder of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) functionary Jameel Ahmad who was shot dead in Thane district of Maharashtra on November 23, 2020. Additional director general (ADG), Special Task Force (STF), Amitabh Yash, said Irfan told police that Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) corporator Najibullah had hired him to eliminate Ahmad. Both Najibullah and Osama are on the run. Irfan, who is from Gorakhpur, was arrested on Saturday from a place near Kathauta Jheel in Gomtinagar, Lucknow. “We are still tracing other people involved in the murder. Irfan has been handed over to a crime branch team of Thane police,” the ADG added.
