It s been seven long months without a home for Renatus Semigak and her family. From hotels to temporary social housing and back to more hotels, there has been more moving and uncertainly than anyone would ever hope for.

REGION On Tuesday, April 13, Secretary of State Shenna Bellows opened up public comment for the November 2 referendum ballot question that places restrictions and stipulations on the development of high-transmission lines. If passed, the citizens’ initiated act has the potential to block the New England Clean Energy Connect LLC’s (NECEC) corridor project.
The corridor is posed to bring Hydro-Québec (HQ) hydropower from Québec via a 145-mile high-transmission line to supplement New England’s power grid. NECEC has obtained all state and federal permits for the corridor, but is still securing local town permits throughout Maine.

The Government of Canada is rebuilding the nation-to-nation, Inuit–Crown and government-to-government relationship with Indigenous Peoples by supporting their right to self-determination. A key part of this work is the Nation Rebuilding Program.
Today, the Honourable Carolyn Bennett, Minister of Crown–Indigenous Relations, announced that Canada has provided over $1.5 million to four Indigenous groups in Quebec through the Nation Rebuilding Program. Minister Bennett met virtually with the Conseil Tribal Mamuitun to learn more about the work being undertaken in their nation and their unique priorities and needs. Funding for the fiscal year 2021-2021 will support the Conseil Tribal Mamuitun in continuing their work to foster communications within the Quebec Innu communities through their Aishkat innuat project. The Conseil Tribal Mamuitun is working to mobilize its me
