It was also learned that Manitoba is just now in the process of hiring a provincial COVID-19 immunization director.
WINNIPEG The Manitoba government announced on Wednesday that it’s launching a 28-day campaign to get the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to all eligible personal care home residents across the province. “Our number one priority continues to be protecting our most vulnerable Manitobans and ensuring our health-care system’s there for all Manitobans when they need it,” said Premier Brian Pallister. Pallister made the announcement at a news conference, saying that by early March every eligible resident will have received both doses of the vaccine. The 28-day campaign will begin on Jan. 11. The Province of Manitoba is rolling out its campaign to vaccinate people living at seven care homes.
To protect vulnerable Manitobans who are at greatest risk from COVID-19, Manitoba will launch a 28-day campaign to immunize all eligible personal care home (PCH) residents in 135 sites across the province with the first dose of the vaccine, Premier Brian Pallister announced today.
“This is the next crucial phase in our plan to protect Manitobans from COVID-19,” said Pallister. “We have built a plan to immunize some of our most vulnerable people as quickly as possible, now that we can bring the vaccine to them safely. By early March, every eligible resident will have received both doses and the fullest protection we can provide against this virus.”
WINNIPEG According to the province’s latest COVID-19 and seasonal influenza surveillance report, which covers Dec. 13 to 19, since the start of the pandemic, 1,485 health-care workers have contracted the disease. This is 137 more cases than Manitoba reported in the week before. Of these nearly 1,500 workers, 853 are allied health and support staff; 426 are nurses/licensed practical nurses; 57 are physician/physicians in training; and 29 are first responders. The province did not identify the professions of 120 of the workers. As for how the health-care workers contracted the disease, the majority (58.6 per cent) got it from close contact with a known case and 0.9 per cent from travel. For 11.8 per cent of the cases the source of infection is still being investigating and for 28.8 per cent it is unknown.
WINNIPEG Nearly 200 more of Manitoba’s health-care workers tested positive for COVID-19 in the span of a week. According to the province’s latest COVID-19 and influenza surveillance report, which reports the numbers from Dec. 6 to Dec. 12, a total of 1,348 health-care workers have contracted the disease since the start of the pandemic. This is 199 more workers than the province reported the week before. The province noted that 1,141 of these workers have recovered from the disease. Of these 1,348 workers, 769 are allied health and support staff, 394 are nurses/licensed practical nurses, 52 are physicians/physicians in training, and 27 are first responders. The occupations of 106 of these workers are not identified.
