JACKSON, MI Jackson will celebrate Black History Month by sharing African-American artifacts and displays with the community through a collaboration with the Ella Sharp Museum.
Beginning Feb. 1, the city of Jackson’s website and social media platforms will feature 10 posts throughout the month featuring never-before-seen artifacts from the Ella Sharp Museum’s main collection.
The oldest artifact to be displayed is an 1893 African-American City Directory featuring black families who lived in Jackson during that era and showing the city has had an established African-American community for more than 100 years, City Spokesman Aaron Dimick said.
