The Wayland Cultural Council has awarded $5,415 to fund 10 cultural and arts projects. After reviewing 25 applications, awards were granted to the following organizations and projects:
1. 10th Annual Community Concert Series hosted by Wayland Council on Aging at the Town Building
2. Connect Program at Wayland High School for COVID Art Installation/Mural
3. Delvena Theater Company for a performance of “Louisa’s Girls” at the Wayland Council on Aging
4. Discovery Museum for its “Open Door Connections” program
5. Diane Wong and the Racial Justice Collaborative for the “Each One, Teach One Saturday Series”
6. Making Autobiographic Comics” youth workshop with Jonathan Todd at the Wayland Free Library
Protestors gather to protest against police-based solutions to the health crisis
“Money for the health, not for the police,” shouted protestors.
A group of organizations and protestors joined to march against the police-based solutions facing the COVID-19 pandemic on Feb. 6. The group of 300 people met at Place Émilie-Gamelin and walked down De Maisonneuve Boulevard.
Collectively, Meals For Milton-Parc, The Racial Justice Collective, Solidarity Across Borders, Ensemble Contre la Gentrification, L’Association Québécoise pour la promotion de la santé des personnes utilisatrices de drogues (AQPSUD), Pas de solution policière à la crise sanitaire, and many more marched.
The groups demanded new systemic solutions such as reinvestment in the social safety net, such as housing to fight against the pandemic.
MONTREAL A demonstration against the imposition of the curfew in Quebec is scheduled this afternoon in Montreal. Organizers from the group No police solution to a health crisis and others are denouncing what they call a police response to the crisis. The curfew will have at most a symbolic effect, the group wrote in a news release. In reality, we are witnessing the continued degradation of the social safety net and the creation of a climate of fear. The demonstration is set to take place at Place Simon Valois in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough in Montreal at 3:30 p.m. An organizer confirmed to CTV News that the winter weather would not halt the demonstration.
