Indonesia s Proposed Online Intermediary Regulation May be the Most Repressive Yet

Indonesia is the latest government to propose a  legal framework to coerce social media platforms, apps, and other online service providers to accept local jurisdiction over their content and users’ data policies and practices. And in many ways, its proposal is the most invasive of human rights.  This rush of national regulations started with Germany’s 2017 “NetzDG” law, which compels internet platforms to remove or block content without a court order and imposes draconian fines on companies that don’t proactively submit to the country s own content-removal rules. Since NetzDG entered into force, Venezuela, Australia, Russia, India, Kenya, the Philippines, and Malaysia have followed with their own laws or been discussing laws similar to the German example.

Indonesian diplomat dies of Covid-19 in Karachi

National January 10, 2021 KARACHI: Indonesian Consul General in Karachi, Totok Prianamto, expired on Saturday afternoon after two-week struggle for his survival from COVID-19 attack. The Indonesian diplomat was admitted to South City Hospital- Clifton, two weeks ago and was under treatment for COVID-19. On Saturday he suffered severe heart attack and left for his last abode at around 4:00 pm. This was confirmed by Mr Abdi, Consul for Information and Socio-Cultural Affairs, Consulate of Indonesia. KARACHI: Indonesian Consul General in Karachi Totok Prianamto died on Saturday afternoon after a two-week struggle with Covid-19. The Indonesian diplomat was admitted to a private hospital in Clifton two weeks ago and was under treatment for Covid-19. On Saturday he suffered severe heart attack and passed away at around 4pm. This was confirmed to APP by Mr Abdi, consul for information and socio-cultural affairs, Consulate of Indonesia.
