Fatal boating incident under investigation in Michigan City By: Mathew Quijano Photo courtesy: Indiana Department of Natural Resources MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. – Indiana Conservation Officers and the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office reported an ongoing investigation into a boating accident that resulted in two fatalities. Officers from both agencies reported the two victims had fallen into the water in a private body of water near U.S. 421. The report states a search was immediately initiated where two adult males were located deceased. A joint investigation with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office and Indiana Conservation officers is ongoing. Share this article:

Author: WTHR.com staff Updated: 6:30 PM EST March 3, 2021 CORTLAND, Ind. An Indiana man had to be rescued after floodwaters swept his truck off the road and then he was ticketed. An Indiana conservation officer, along with a Jackson County Sheriff s Office deputy, used a boat to reach the driver near Cortland, Indiana. They then had to break the window on the truck to get the driver out.

Tuesday shortly after noon the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two vehicle accident at US 31 and south Michigan Road in the southbound lanes with the caller stating there was entrapment. As Deputy Neal Wallace arrived on the scene Midflight was requested to respond to the Plymouth Airport. During the investigation into the crash it was stated in the report that 68 year old Laura Melton of Scottsboro, Alabama driving the Hyundai Sonata was traveling southbound in the passing lane of US 31. The driver of the Chevrolet Equinox identified as 71 year old Stephen Trago of Plymouth was exiting Michigan Road traveling eastbound across the south lanes of US 31 to travel northbound on US 31 when he failed to yield to Melton’s oncoming vehicle.
