Indiana County first responders were busy with a wide variety of calls on Tuesday.
Clyde and Armagh Fire Departments were called out for a brush fire at 1:27 PM on Gamble Road in West Wheatfield Township. This marks the 10
th brush fire in Indiana County this year so far. Saltsburg and Tunnelton fire crews were called to Clubhouse Drive in Westmoreland County to assist firefighters there with a brush fire at 1:22 PM.
Black Lick and Blairsville fire crews and the State Police were called out for a reported vehicle fire at 3:48 PM on Tuesday. Black Lick fire officials say that a vehicle had overturned on Route 217 near Ferguson School Road. When crews got there, they were able to confirm that the vehicle caught fire. Anyone in the car was able to get out safely. State police have not yet released a report on the incident.

John Robert Grab, a man of peace, died early today, Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at Indiana Square in White Township.
He passed away three days after his 93rd birthday.
John was a son of William L. and Helen Marie (McHale) Grab and was born March 6, 1928, in New Rochelle, N.Y.
He graduated in 1946 from Isaac E. Young High School, enlisted in the U.S. Army and served until late 1947 in the Company F, 325 th Infantry, Army of Occupation keeping the peace in post- World War II Italy. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal.
John collected tolls for eight years for the New England Expressway and was a police officer for four years before he followed his father’s lead and served for 27 years with the New Rochelle Fire Department.

The first day of the New Year turned out to be a busy one as first responders were called out for several calls on Friday.
Three of the calls were power-line related as lines were reported down in some of Indiana County’s eastern townships. The first such call was at 5:03 PM along Route 403 in Pine Township, with the Pine Township fire department dispatched for that call. The second was at 6:52 PM along Grange Hall Road in East Wheatfield Township and Armagh fire department was called out for that. The final “lines down” call was at 7:47 PM in Green Township along Lovejoy Road. Commodore Fire Department was called out for that incident.

Indiana County’s first responders had an active day on Sunday with a few calls reported.
The day started early for first responders with an automatic fire alarm activation at 4:00 AM on Oakland Avenue in White Township. Indiana Fire Association was dispatched to the scene. At 11:36 AM, Homer City Fire Department was called to East Church Street in Homer City Borough for a report of utility lines down. Indiana’s rescue squad would be called out at 12:05 PM for a physical rescue.
Blairsville and Black Lick firefighters, Pennsylvania State Police, and Citizens Ambulance were called out to Corporate Campus Drive in Burrell Township for a reported vehicle accident at 2:06 PM. Police have not released a news report on the crash.

On Wednesday Night, the White Township Supervisors approved the 2021 budget.
The budget went unchanged from the draft budget approved in November, and it contains no property taxes for the township. Expenditures for the township come to $8,781,923, while income is at $8,281,078. The township will use some of its surplus to fill the budget gap.
The supervisors also approved a resolution for the 2020 Priorities Comprehensive Plan update. White Township Assistant Manager Chris Anderson talked about two additions to the plan that were recommended by Friends of White’s Woods.
