Tibetan spiritual leader The Dalai Lama On the 140th anniversary of the founding of The Tribune, I am glad to have this opportunity to share some of my thoughts with your readers. I am pleased to learn that the newspaper was established because its founder understood the importance of educating the Indian community and saw the role that education could play in sustaining a sense of national identity when India was under British rule. I generally say that the media plays an important part in ensuring that people can see every development in society from a broader perspective. I have even jokingly said on occasion that those in the media should have long noses like elephants, so that they can smell, and then expose, both the good and the bad.

A new Bible version for the smartphone generation While interest in religion decreases, a new Bible for the digital age, with simpler words and short sentences, aims to reach young people in Germany.  In 1517 a monk named Martin Luther set in motion a religious revolution known as the Reformation. It would form the Protestant church and remains one of Germany s main religious institutions. Yet it may not come as a surprise that Germany s population, like that of many other countries, has become more secular in recent decades.  In an attempt to reach young people, the German Bibelgesellschaft (German Bible Society) has released an updated version of the bible, called the BasisBibel, designed to be read online and adapted to the language and style of the smartphone generation.

In a webinar titles “Exploring Buddhist Circuit by Train” on 16 January, officials discussed showcasing Indian Buddhist heritage to the domestic market and to anticipated growth in the international market for train travel when the coronavirus pandemic recedes. Taking up the lead in the webinar, Ministry of Tourism deputy director general Shri Arun Srivastava noted that there are 500 million Buddhists worldwide, offering enormous market potential for Buddhist tourism in India.

The “Exploring Buddhist Circuit by Train” webinar focused on showcasing the Buddhist heritage in India to the domestic market while building awareness for train travel when international tourism to India resumes.  In addition to providing background on the destinations that are part of the Buddhist heritage circuit, the webinar provided first-hand travel information including accommodation options and the most recent update on train travel.
