Everyone has a go-to sandwich when they go and get a sub. It doesn t matter if it s the artisan sandwich shop down the road or if it s just going to Subway. My go-to every single time is a perfect Italian Mixed sub. The cool thing about an Italian Mixed is every place does it their own way. Some will use mortadella, some will use capicola, and others use pepperoni and salami. But it typically is some combination of the delicious meats above.

You could argue that delis are New Jersey’s greatest culinary treasure. Italian delis, Jewish delis, Polish delis, delis of all shapes and sizes populate the Garden State. Delis have it all: sandwiches, wraps, burgers, breakfast, salads, soups and so much more.
If your town does not have a deli, maybe you should consider moving?

After the announcement of the restaurant’s
pending closure in October, Maria Simione, who opened the original restaurant back in 1973 and still owned the property, expressed her hopes for a “new chapter” and a search for another willing operator to continue to carry on the business.
Co-owners Jonathan Carrillo and Brian Hernandez heard the call and soon knew they couldn’t let the business’ legacy end, they said.
“I’ve been coming here since I was a kid, (and) my son loves to come here, too,” Hernandez said, adding that coming to Maria’s became a Tuesday routine for them. “This place has been dear to my heart.”
