KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (eTN) – The country’s business capital, recently voted number four by FORBES business magazine under its list of world’s ten next great cities, has claimed it is now facing a new dilemma: it is in a race to save its tourist mecca, Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown, from losing its distinct identity and flavor.
According to Kuala Lumpur City Hall, Petaling Street in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown is undergoing an “identity crisis.” Irked at the public’s many complaints of the changing faces manning the area’s renowned street stalls, City Hall’s director of security and enforcement, Rolan Rahman said, “If the Chinese community trading in Petaling Street wants to keep its identity, they should stop hiring foreign workers.”

LETTER | I have lived and visited many developed cities abroad such as Toronto, Singapore, Melbourne and I envy their urban planning. I’m currently back in Kuala Lumpur and I can’t help but wonder when will Kuala Lumpur ever reach the same status as the cities I have been to.
DBKL the local authority has failed in managing and transforming Kuala Lumpur into a liveable city. Frequent flash floods, worsening traffic congestion, lack of safe pedestrian crossing, poor enforcement, and terrible development planning by DBKL has lowered the standard of livability for Kuala Lumpur.

Sabah Parks (TTS) will soon launch an online booking and permit application system to better facilitate hikers planning to climb Mount Kinabalu in Sabah.
Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the system would enable hikers to make a direct booking and payment without having to go through agents as practised previously.
“I hope the system can make bookings easier for hikers and will provide fair opportunities for more extreme sports enthusiasts to climb Malaysia’s highest mountain, ” he said at an event in Kota Kinabalu recently. Only a certain number of permits are given out to climbers daily.
