The National Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Ayuba Wabba on Wednesday led the third-day protest in Kaduna State.
The protest started on Monday following the disengagement of over seven thousand civil servants at the state and local governments by the Kaduna State government.
The strike has paralysed critical sectors of the economy in the state and the state governor Nasir El-Rufai in reaction declared the NLC Chairman and other leaders wanted for economic sabotage and attacks on public infrastructure in Kaduna State under the Miscellaneous Offences Act.
Despite this, the workers again gathered on Wednesday morning at the state NLC secretariat amidst heavy security chanting songs of solidarity.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has suspended the five-day warning strike in Kaduna state following a request for negotiations by the federal government.
Members of the labour union had embarked on the strike over the decision of the state government to disengage 4,000 workers across the 23 LGAs.
The Kaduna government had said the decision was taken because the huge wage bill wasn’t sustainable.
Nasir el-Rufai, Kaduna governor, had accused the NLC members of economic sabotage and declared their leaders wanted.
Announcing the suspension, the NLC President, Ayuba Wabba said the decision is to honour the invitation of the Federal Government on Thursday, 20 May, to mediate in the dispute between labour and the Kaduna State Government.

Earlier today, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige waded into the ongoing face-off between the Kaduna State government and labour unions by inviting both parties to a reconciliation meeting.
The meeting scheduled to hold at the Ministry of Labour and Employment in the Federal Secretariat, Abuja is to be attended by the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El Rufai and top officials of the State; s well as the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Ayuba Wabba and top NLC leaders.

Also on Tuesday, hoodlums reportedly loyal to the governor disrupted the peaceful protest embarked upon by the workers.

No fewer than 100 hoodlums loyal to the Kaduna State government and Governor Nasir El-Rufai on Wednesday invaded the venue where the Nigeria Labour Congress and its members were to continue their peaceful march and agitation.
SaharaReporters learnt that the police arrested 20 of the hoodlums, who reportedly invaded the NLC gathering ground as early as 5am.

A source explained that the state government which was desperate to silence the protesting workers and their union might have mobilised the hoodlums as they attempted to hurl stones and other pebbles at the workers.
