After an intense week of Class B Region 7 basketball games that were packed with upsets, buzzer beaters and heart breaking situations, it was time for the main event. With the top-seeded Hettinger-Scranton Night Hawks determined to earn its third straight regional title and the seventh-seeded Heart River Cougars hopeful to pull off the Cinderella story after eliminating the second and third seeds in the tournament, it was an event fans did not want to miss.

Every athlete dreams of having their moment, whether it be in baseball and hitting the Babe Ruth grand slam, in football and scoring the game-winning touchdown, or in basketball hitting the game-winning basket over a very tough opponent. Only a select few have stories like that, especially on the southwestern edge of North Dakota.
Sam Huether is now one of them. And while it may not have been in his ultimate favorite sport of football, to him and the entire town of Mott-Regent, it will be a tale told for a long time.
The Stark County Sheriff’s Office has received information and is investigating incidents of trash/debris and appliances being thrown out in the area of Lehigh Road and the Heart River Bridge. Littering is an infraction and a continuing issue with Stark County.

Area Athletics Monday, Jan. 25, 2021.
After another busy weekend of sports, Monday featured only a few sporting events taking place not just within the southwest region of North Dakota, but throughout the entire state. Still, some Class B Region 7 varsity basketball was played along with a Dickinson State collegiate basketball game.
In girls varsity basketball, Bowman County traveled to Hettinger-Scranton to take on the Night Hawks. After a close back-and-forth battle, the Night Hawks took advantage of its home court presence and came away with a 57-52 win. The Richardton-Taylor Raiders traveled to New Salem and just fell short of a win with a 32-29 loss. The Heart River Cougars traveled to New England to take on the Tigers and celebrated a 72-55 victory.
