COLUMBUS, Ohio – Irina Cantos Siemers, a sophomore on the No. 9 Ohio State women’s tennis team, has been named the UTR ITA Player of the Week, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Thursday. Cantos Siemers, from Barcelona, Spain, posted three wins to help the Buckeyes advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
Playing court two for the Buckeyes, Cantos Siemers, ranked 78th, posted a three-set win over No. 11-ranked Natasha Subhash of Virginia, tying the team score at two en route to a 4-2 Buckeye victory Sunday. In singles Saturday, Cantos Siemers led No. 121 Viktoriya Kanapatskaya of Syracuse, 6-2, 4-4, when the Buckeyes clinched the 4-0 team victory and her match was suspended.

A week before women’s tennis takes the court, the Gators rank No. 21, according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s 2021 rankings.
Florida’s roster is headlined by two singles competitors, McCartney Kessler and Layne Sleeth, and a pair that sees Kessler again along with junior Marlee Zein.
Florida is one of five SEC teams to be ranked. Other terms include Georgia, LSU, Vanderbilt and South Carolina.
