Op-ed: NCAA tournament was as historic as its backdrop was somber

This year’s NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament was nothing short of historic. On that, we all agree. And most people understand that the backdrop against which it was set was unprecedented in so many ways and logistically complex and had a seemingly endless supply of unique challenges to overcome. Reasonable people, too, acknowledge the severity and somber nature of the events that resulted in the Indianapolis-controlled environment in the first place. As we have all said over and over again: May we never have to host this kind of an event in this way for these reasons ever again.

Downtown Indianapolis sees major improvements ahead of March Madness

The city of Indianapolis and local organizations have come together to pump over $1 million into beautification efforts downtown ahead of next week s March Madness tournament.  The streets are clean and ready for an estimated 400,000 pedestrians to walk along the area of Mile Square over the roughly three-week tournament. Georgia Street is now closed to through traffic and ready for business.  Here are a few improvements that the Department of Public Works and Downtown Indy, Inc. touted just days before the start of March Madness.  Georgia Street improvements The Department of Public Works unrolled $850,000 in capital improvements to Georgia Street, a key connector between Bankers Life and the Indiana Convention Center downtown.
