Samsung has announced a new type of HBM. Named HBM-PIM, this is the world’s first High Bandwidth Memory integrated with artificial intelligence processing power. Featuring a processing-in-memory design, HBM-PIM is aimed at data centre use, HPC systems, and AI-enabled mobile applications.
Although HBM-PIM has been designed for such tasks, Samsung will work with AI specialists for “even more advanced PIM-powered applications”. Rick Stevens, Argonne’s Associate Laboratory director for computing, environment, and life sciences, stated it’s glad that Samsung is tackling the “memory bandwidth/power challenges for HPC and AI computing” with HBM-PIM, providing noticeable performance improvements in various classes of AI applications.
City Has New Round Of Small Business Assistance Funds Wednesday, January 27, 2021
Jermaine Freeman on Tuesday outlined for the City Council how the Small Business Assistance funds will be dispersed, and the process behind it.
“When we first did this in April and May, many of our small businesses shut down because of executive orders and were experiencing zero revenue,” Mr. Freeman said. “We are not in that position anymore, although many of our small businesses are struggling.”
That funding has been given to the Southeast Tennessee Development District, and he said they are asking for local area technical assistance providers in helping to coach and assist businesses who apply for the funds.
