A sessions court on Tuesday granted bail to the main suspect in a case pertaining to the abduction and rape of an underage Christian girl, Neha, who allegedly converted to Islam.
The additional district and sessions judge of District West, Gul Zamir Solangi, approved bail-after-the-arrest application moved by Imran Baloch, and ordered him to submit a surety of Rs100,000 to secure his release from jail.
According to the prosecution, Imran, in connivance with his brother Rehan Baloch, sister-in-law Sundus and sister Azra Bibi kidnapped Neha in Ittehad Town in June 2019 and then subjected her to rape.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, and Muttahida Qaumi Movement have boycotted the Election Commission of Pakistan recount of votes cast during Karachi s NA-249 by-election on May 1. The election body approved on May 4 the request for vote recount filed by PML-N s Miftah Ismail, who contested the by-election. All political parties, except for the Pakistan Peoples Party, criticised the recounting process when it started Thursday morning. Ismail said, while speaking to the media, that the electoral staff did not show their signatures on the form. They brought a bag of votes with no seal on it. When we questioned them, they said that it must have fallen so.

KARACHI: “We have to work in partnership and join hands to achieve results,” says Tasneem Fatima, Team Lead CHIP, Karachi. Fatima has been working with CHIP (Civil Society Human and Institutional Development Programme) since 2015. At present she is working to encourage and motivate parents to get their children immunised. Her target area is UC-2 in Baldia Town, district West Karachi.
“There are eight super risk union councils in Karachi and UC-2 Baldia (Ittehad Town) is one of them,” she says. “People belonging to various communities live there but most are Pakhtuns. There are multiple problems, such as lack of awareness, illiteracy, and poverty, due to which immunisation rate is very low,” says Fatima.
People are not aware of the need for immunisation or if some of them are, they don’t know where to go for it. AFP/File
