The U.S. government on Tuesday expanded its warning about doing business in China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR), citing forced labor and genocide against the Uyghur ethnic group, while the European Union issued new guidelines to halt the import of goods made with suspected forced labor.
The updated Xinjiang Supply Chain Business Advisory was issued in response to China’s “ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang and the growing evidence of its use of forced labor there,” said a statement issued by U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

London: A stoush over Chinese ownership of a British semiconductor manufacturer could kick off another Huawei-level dispute over Beijing’s investments.
Foreshadowing the new dispute, Prime Minister Boris Johnson ordered a review of the takeover 24 hours after his government said it would not intervene.
On Monday Chinese-owned firm Nexperia said it had acquired Welsh-based Newport Wafer Fab, which is the UK’s largest producer of silicon chips. The value of the deal was not confirmed and Newport Wafer Fab did not respond to requests for comments.

However, it has been speculated that the buyout was worth as much as £63 ($116) million.

“If we choose not to, we’re nesting the dragon deeper and deeper into our national life,” said Tom Tugendhat, Conservative chair of the committee. The British public has, he said, an expectation that Britain will stand up for “defense of the rule of law” and “fair competition in trade.”
